Is it 2021 yet?  We all want to see 2020 in the rear-view mirror! However, we find ourselves in the thick of it, with Summer winding down and school just beginning. Well, let’s make the most of it!  Here are four (4) quick ideas to generate some happiness and sanity in our lives.

1. Create a FAMILY SCHEDULE that utilizes TIME BLOCKING to outline working hours and family time.  Posting your family schedule for everyone to see can reduce or eliminate interruptions while you work and will keep everyone on the same page.  Remember to add time for self-care, as it will help reduce stress and end your day on a happy note!

2. Individual TASK LISTS (with items from school and chores) for each family member can keep kids quietly occupied with delegated tasks on their list to do, while you focus on work.  This is a great tool to specify what they can do before they have free time.  For example, for younger children, try coming up with 8 tasks per hour and 16 tasks for the older children, per hour. School work can take much of the time and assigned chores can help tidy up, so the whole household can enjoy family time and free time later in the day!

 3. Pre-made snacks allowed at a designated time in your schedule keeps kids happily fed and prevents their interruption asking for food while you work.

 4. Weekly INCENTIVES can be a fun way to encourage your kids to complete their daily tasks for their reward while allowing you to work productively to achieve your goals.

Overall, give yourself and your family some grace.  There is no magic formula or perfect way of doing things. You need to do what is best for you and your family.  What is helping you balance work, school and life during this time?
