When It Means The Most

By Lisa Shafer

During times of crisis, it’s not the sprints that win, it’s going the distance that triumphs. We are all in this COVID19 storm together, during social distancing, it is staying in front of your clients regularly and meaningfully that will make a difference. What you do now will build your business in the long run.

Empathetic marketing is needed right now. Below are a few ideas to stay relevant when it means the most:

  • Check In: Call your clients, a personal touch is extremely important. The markets may be in turmoil, but your clients need to know that you are there for them. Ask them how they are doing personally and professionally. We are all going through this, but we all are experiencing it differently, so make sure to check in.
  • Mail a handwritten message: We are all drowning in email messages filling our inboxes and it’s easy to get lost in the digital noise. Research shows that writing and receiving a handwritten card can make you happier. This confirms the importance of the relationship and will be remembered longer. When times get tough, your clients will come to you in the future.
  • Virtually meet your clients: Most are using Zoom, WebEx or Ring Central to schedule virtual meetings, instead of focusing on products, schedule a catch-up breakfast/luncheon/happy hour. There are different ways to have your clients order food and have it delivered and ready for a quick catch up!
  • Set up adjusted face-to-face meetings: Be creative and schedule face to face meetings with clients in places that will provide reassurance that it is safe.

This virus has, in many ways, forced us to rethink the ways we run our businesses, our lives and economy, but if you keep your client at the center of your focus, you will be building a foundation for a successful future.
