For many, Fall is a magical time of year. Kids go back to school, leaves change, temperatures drop, but for many the true magic begins just prior to kickoff. It’s time for fantasy football.

If you’re looking for a way to stay connected to some of your top clients, fantasy football (or baseball or hockey or Nascar…) is a great option. Setting up a team is easy and fun while providing regular communication with your league members. To prep for fantasy football season, I cornered my husband and got some of his top tips…with the promise that this would publish AFTER his draft!

1. Mahomes and Lamar are great, but the QB talent runs deep. Grab a guy like Brady or Matt Ryan a bit later and use your first few picks on position players.

2. A top strategy is to draft Running Backs early, and then Wide Receivers. This year, pick up proven players in the middle rounds, and then load up on rookies late like Jerry Jeudy, Michael Pittman and super sleeper Brian Edwards.

3. Don’t be the guy who drafts a kicker or defense too early. You can wait until the last few rounds for both. Defense favorites include Buffalo and Baltimore, but Indy is a sneaky good option and an easier schedule.

4. Tight Ends are a dime a dozen this year, so don’t get overeager here either. My top choice is 2nd year Bronco Noah Fant, but grab Hayden Hurst a tad earlier as a solid pick.

5. Do your best to walk away with Kareem Hunt, Jerry Jeudy, Michael Pittman and Noah Fant.

Now for the important part of the draft…the food and party! In the past draft parties have developed into an institution. In pandemic times, we have to get more creative. Some tips for throwing an epic virtual draft:

1. Coordinate food with your buddies. If your league consists of your top clients, go ahead and send them a pizza or draft day kit complete with snacks and drinks.

2. Show your true colors. Wear your team’s jersey or colors. Go all out with some facepaint or a team hat.

3. Set up a Virtual Background ahead of time. Use your team’s mascot, stadium or a shot with the team behind you.

4. If you don’t already have an award in place for your league, get one ready NOW. The prize makes it more fun to play for during the season and when you win, you can display it in all its glory during next year’s draft!
