Ho, ho, oh – what? The holidays are almost here?

Does anyone else feel like they’ve been living on a roller coaster the last almost two years? Our lives changed at the onset of the pandemic and we’re still struggling to get back to “normal” while making sure we keep ourselves and families safe. The approaching holidays add another layer of stress that can be overwhelming. We have to continue to give ourselves grace and do what we feel is best for our situations. No one else’s opinion matters and it’s okay if friends and family aren’t happy with your decisions.

The approaching holidays add another layer of stress that can be overwhelming.

To gather or not?- This has been a hot topic in the news recently. While many people spend the holidays with family, often including travel, some experts are discouraging it again this year. If you feel comfortable traveling and gathering, go for it. If you don’t, stay home and make new traditions. Neither choice is wrong!

These are unprecedented and uncertain times, and making a decision to keep others happy is only going to add to your stress and worry.

Don’t go beyond your comfort level. These are unprecedented and uncertain times, and making a decision to keep others happy is only going to add to your stress and worry. You can always plan a trip to see family outside of the holidays or do a Zoom as an alternative to visiting in person.

To shop or not?- We live in a world where many of us do our shopping mostly online anyway, but there are some who have traditional shopping outings each year with family and friends. (Black Friday, anyone?) Not comfortable hitting the mall just yet? Explain your reservations to those involved and send them on their way. Shop online in your pjs and don’t give it another thought.

The pandemic has fortunately/unfortunately brought out the best and worst in people and caused division amongst family and friends. It’s been a stressful time, but it doesn’t have to be. Do what feels right for you and your family, show yourself and others grace, and enjoy the holiday season whatever it may look like for you.
